Growing up in Alaska I was surrounded by women who spent their time outside in the wild. Hiking, biking, snowshoeing, snow-machining, and more. From as far back I can remember my mom would take me outside as much as possible. There was no if we would go for a hike or walk today, it was when. As I reached middle school I began to hate being outside all the time, I wanted to go do things with my friends, doing middle school things. But when the pandemic hit I began to hike every day, for three months I don't think there was a day I was not outside in the mountains. I fell in love with nature again, it made me realize how wonderful our world is and how small we are compared to it.
These photos are from years of being outside with women in the mountains and seeing firsthand how small we are compared to our earth. The photos are of my mom, a woman who had six sled dogs and would ski with them on the tundra of the north slope for miles and miles, a woman who learned how to fly a plane for fun, a woman who was a Marine biologist, who I look up to more than anyone in this world. She made me love being outside and finding myself in the mountains.
So these photos are photos of the badass women who spent their life in
mountains.
